PCR primers that specifically identify Moraxella catarrhallis

Description:
M. Catarrhalis is a significant cause of human respiratory diseases and in particular is a major cause of otitis media in young children. The invention consists of PCR Primers that demonstrate quick and definitive diagnosis of Moraxella Catarrhalis (MC). The Primers from this invention are used to amplify a region of the MC chromosome and clone genes in serotype A, B & C of MC, which may lead to effective use of antibiotics and improved disease management. The primers can be used in a DNA micro-array that diagnoses different causes of otitis media (OM) and other respiratory diseases. In addition, PCR primers can be used to effectively diagnose M.Catarrhalis,to avoid over use of prescription antibiotics, and can be used in differential diagnosis of human respiratory diseases.
